10 Games to Platinum in 2022

Platinum Goals 2022

I decided to set some platinum goals at the start of 2022. I figured it would help guide me through the journey and keep me motivated. I have since realised having these vague goals in my head has a minimal impact, and I thought it was time to write down some concrete ones to keep myself orientated and importantly, accountable.

Initially, I set a goal in my head was to achieve 50 platinum trophies in 2022. I’ve since realised that it’s probably not realistic and have altered it to 40. This is due to the list of games that I want to play, and the length of some of the titles. I don’t intend to play too many sub 10 hour games, but there will be some in there. I won’t be playing any games that I don’t enjoy, and I won’t be playing games just for quick and easy platinum. My overarching goal is to expand my gaming repertoire and experience new genres.

40 is still a high number, but I think it is very achievable. We’re in week 8 of 2022 right now, and I am just about to complete my 6th platinum. None of these games have been under 15 hours to completion, so I think I’m still on track.

Below I will highlight a list of 9 games that I intend to platinum in 2022.

10 Games to Platinum in 2022

I have set myself a sub-goal in 2022. Here, I have listed 10 specific games from different genres that I would like to complete and platinum in 2022. I’m sure many of you have already played a few of, if not all of these, but I have a huge backlog of games to get through, so a lot end up just sitting on the sidelines for an extended period.

Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima Platinum Goals 2022

I want to start this game as soon as possible. I’ve avoided spoilers for so long now, and I have watched very little gameplay. That is my favourite way to do things, as it adds to the excitement of playing the game for the first time – not knowing what to expect. I have seen plenty of screenshots and the game looks beautiful, so I can’t wait to load up the director’s cut version on the PS5 and get stuck into some samurai action. I know it is a fairly long time to platinum (60 hours), but I’m sure I will love every minute of it.

Returnal

Returnal Platinum Goals 2022

I originally didn’t have this one on my list, but after chatting to some people on Twitter I have included Returnal. It looks phenomenal, and it will be my first PS5 exclusive. The combat looks difficult and intricate, just my style. I know very little about the story, which suits me just fine as well. From what I’ve seen this game is going to be very engrossing and likely to end up very high on my all-time list. At around 60 hours it will be another fairly long platinum, but I can’t wait for this one.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3

This is another game that has suffered from my gaming issues in the past. I’ll start by saying I adore this game. I’ve played through the first half of the story 3 times now, only to end up going back to Rainbow Six Siege and completely forgetting the sequence of events. This leads me to start the game again with a different build. My most recent experience was early last year, but this time I’ve made a conscious effort to remember where I was up to and the storyline. I’m still yet to decide if I will restart it, but either way I still only have around 20% of the trophies – a long way to go.

Batman: Arkham City

Arkham City

Another game that I have started, although this time I haven’t made it past an hour or so. Again, I missed out here due to my indecisiveness. Arkham Asylum was one of my favourite games on the PS3 ( actually finished it on the PS3 and the PS4!). I will also go back and platinum that at some stage, as I only have the combat challenges to do. First, though, I will return to Arkham City. I can’t wait.

Days Gone

Days Gone

Days Gone has pipped my interest for some time now. A badass biker who rides around destroying hordes of zombies? What else do I need to say? I loaded this up on the PS5 recently and it looks stunning, so I can’t wait to get stuck into this.

Oddworld: New 'N' Tasty

Oddworld

I loved platformers as a kid. One of my favourites on the original PlayStation was Abe’s Oddysee. The remake is still sitting in my library after it was free on PSPlus, so what better way to feel that nostalgia than to jump right back into Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty. I love that little alien.

Nier: Automata

Nier Automata

Nier: Automata is one of those different games that I like the look of. By different, I mean something that I wouldn’t have necessarily picked up previously. The art style looks amazing, though, and it regularly pops up on Reddit threads and lists where someone has asked for recommendations of what to play. A compelling story that is bizarre and also tragic, with great characters and fun combat. I’m in.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

Hellblade

Everything I’ve read and seen points to this being a fantastic experience. It’s dark, has an impressive, immersive soundtrack, the atmosphere is, by all regards, second to none, and it has a serious psychological subject matter. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is one of those games that leaves a lasting impression on the gamer long after they have finished it. Many say that this is a AAA game by an indie developer. Additionally, 8-hour platinum makes this a must-play in 2022.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Rift Apart

I recently obtained the platinum for Ratchet & Clank (2016), and it was an awesome experience. It rustled the nostalgia of the old Nintendo 64 platformers and scratched an itch I wasn’t aware existed anymore. If you want to see how much I enjoyed Ratchet & Clank (2016), read my review here.

Bugsnax

Bugsnax

This fun little platformer makes its way onto my list of must platinum games in 2022. It is another sleeper for me, and I haven’t seen any video footage of it at all. Perfect. I’ve read some things here and there and it looks like it will be right up my alley. 10-hour platinum and a people’s voice GOTY nominee makes this a must complete in 2022.

Final Word

I know there are a few very long games here. There are also many more that I could’ve easily included. As the year progresses, I will have an updated list of platinum goals for the second half of 2022.

Overall, I’m confident that these 9 games can form the core of my goal of 40 platinums in 2022. Wish me luck!
