Astro’s Playroom Trophies – Platinum Obsession Review

Astro's Playroom Trophies

What's this game all about?

Astro’s Playroom is a PS5 exclusive 3D platformer. For a free game that is used to primarily showcase the new features of the PS5, it is very enjoyable. The game looks beautiful on the PS5 and lets you experience the sensations of the world through the new Dualsense controller. You play as Astro Bot, and traverse through a world that pays homeage to the legacy that PlayStation has built over the years. Obtaining all of the Astro’s Playroom trophies was really just an added bonus to the beautifully constructed world.

The playroom literally takes part inside a PS5 console, with the hub acting as a gateway to four worlds. Each world uses its own approach to showacising the sensations of the dualsense. Whether that be jumping in a frog suit, climbing and swinging in a monkey suit, becoming a literal ball controlled solely by the touchpad, or hovering in a jet pack.

Throughout the game there are over 60 easter eggs forclassic PlayStation titles. These include legacy classics such as Ape Escape, Silent Hill, Castlevania, as well as more recent iterations including Death Stranding, Horizon Zero Dawn, and the Last of Us. Overall, I highly recommend this game to anyone with a Playstation 5, as it is a short, enjoyable game that rally makes you feel good about gami

Astro's Playroom Trophies

Collectiong the Trophies on Astro’s Playroom and obtaining the platinum, wasn’t difficult. There are 26 bronze, 13 silver, 3 gold, and a plat for a total of 43 trophies. I pretty much obtained all of these from my first playthrough, bar the collectibles. The collectibles consist of artifacts and puzzle pieces, as well as a Gatcha Prize Machine, which is basically a claw machine game that we have all seen at our local arcade. My first runthrough I actually missed a lot of the collectibles as I didn’t stray too far from the linear story path. Initially, I was more focussed on the gameplay and mechanics, so I did end up basically running through the game for a second time.

The real joy of this game came with collecting the artifacts and puzzle pieces, as each artifact has a throwback to a PlayStation console or accessory. These consist of items all the way from the PlayStation Mouse (which I admit I didn’t even know existed) through to the PS5. All of these collectibles line up in a mini museum called the Playstation Labo, and the arrangement of these items is nothing short of beautiful and is highly nostalgia enducing. There are a few hidden trophies that can be obtained in this room by completeing tasks such as Standing on the tip of the Aim Controller, or opening the lid of the PlayStation console, but these are pretty simple.

Focussing on the platinum trophy for this game really helped me enjoy the title to the maximum potential. The old me would’ve likely ran through the game once, and pretty much called it a day. Doing this, I would’ve missed not only the majority of the easter eggs scattered throughout the world, but also a lot of the artifacts and puzzle pieces. Thus, I really wouldn’t have been able to fully appreciate what the developers had included in this title that makes it as special as it is.

Personally, I have been lucky enough to grow up with the PS1 and own every console, so being able to see some of the throwbacks to some classic older games and accessories/consolces really brought a smile to my face at times. Leaving the game now, I believe I have taken a lot more from it that I ever would have if I just went for a quick runthrough of the levels, as I used to. Now, I look back on the game and instead of visualising the worlds, what has stuck with me is the interactive PlayStation Labo and the beautiful puzzles on the wall.
